With Spring fast approaching, salad season is here with fresh local greens from the field in the next couple of weeks, sooner if from a greenhouse like Ramzy at JARDINS CARYA , who also has FRESH sprouts or microgreens! How tasty are they! We grow our lettuce near the kitchen in staggered containers (saves weeding). It grows fast and is ready ...

Pepper Harvest 2019 Pepper Harvest in Canada at Gordz Hot Sauce farm was very different this year! In past years, we generally held a 'harvest day' on Thanksgiving, as the True North is not usually very plant friendly after this time. Friends would gather for a picking party! It was generally a 1 day affair. This year, well, this year was interesti...

We had such a late planting and then it went directly from wet and cold to dry and superhot! Although we keep the peppers in good water supply, nothing makes them happier than rain and thunderstorms. Believe it or not. Unde...

As summer progresses, we continue to water, weed and tend all these pepper plants. The landscape fabric saves much of the weeding time. The birds take care of pest control for us, as they walk under the plants snagging the pests for lunch. We seem to have a security detail of hummingbirds as well. I did mention we live in a birdcage, right? As the...

Spring is a busy time for Gordz Hot Sauce. We have to plan out our gardens while we continue sowing seeds, with the addition of watering all the young plants frequently. We began this year by ordering fresh seed stock to compliment our own harvested seeds from last year. We sow the seeds in tray after tray of too many varieties to list. We line them all up on tables under their domes for easy watering and we wait for them to sprout. Once sprouted, we add lights to assist with their growth and ...
